This one has become an essential part of my mixing workflow. I use it as my main compressor on either the drum bus or the kick + bass bus, regardless of the genre. What I love most is the way its op-amp character affects the low end. It gives the bottom end a certain movement and shift that I find incredibly effective.
P19 IGLOO
A peak compressor that pushes back. The harder it works, the more punch it keeps.
P19 is the peak compressor next to P11 Abyss. Its recoil circuit answers gain reduction with a force in the other direction, so transients keep their impact under heavy processing. PSI moves the feel from VCA to diode bridge and Vari-Mu territory, DYNAMICS calms the reaction to sudden peaks, and EASY mode folds the panel down to the essentials with the same circuit underneath. Zero latency with oversampling off.

Compression that pushes back.
As gain reduction increases, the circuit applies a force in the other direction. The compressor works harder, and the sound keeps its punch, its air and its clarity.
Where P11 Abyss levels by RMS, P19 reacts to peaks: instant on transients, with a sharper contour on drums, bass and anything percussive. Stepped THRESHOLD, RATIO, ATTACK and RELEASE give a fast, repeatable workflow with timings chosen by ear, and a switch turns ATTACK and RELEASE continuous when a track wants something in between. KNEE shapes the transition, LINK runs the channels from fully coupled to two independent mono compressors, and the sidechain filter keeps kick and sub energy from driving the reduction.
The character lives in a few controls. PSI shifts how the compressor reacts, from a clean VCA-like grip at the bottom to the bloom and harmonic weight of diode bridge and Vari-Mu designs at the top. DYNAMICS makes it deliberately less reactive to sudden peaks, so a piano or a vocal keeps breathing without pumping. INPUT drives the input transformer, BIAS colors the output one, OVERLOAD pushes into hypercompression, SOUL switches the signature depth on or off, and AHEAD adds lookahead when the first transient matters more than latency.
- RECOIL
- A peak compressor whose circuit reacts against its own gain reduction. Under heavy processing the signal keeps its impact and clarity instead of collapsing.
- PSI
- Psychoacoustic Shaping Index, first seen in P11 Abyss. Low values behave like a clean, fast VCA; high values lean into the saturation and bloom of diode bridge and Vari-Mu designs. It changes how the compressor reacts, not the time constants.
- DYNAMICS
- Reduces the response to sudden level changes so the compression feels smoother and less reactive. Turn it up to keep a piano or a vocal breathing without pumping.
- EASY MODE
- One switch hides DYNAMICS, SOUL, AHEAD and channel linking while keeping them active under the hood. Start from a preset and mix.
From the pros.
“P19 Igloo is by far the most versatile compressor I have ever used. By Far. I have yet to put it on any source material where it doesn't work brilliantly. And...it has also become my default mix bus plugin. The detail and clarity is simply incredible. P19 Igloo falls squarely at the top of my non-negotioable mixing tools.”
“The P19 Igloo is a game-changer for me. It’s incredibly flexible yet intuitive and easy to use. It can be pristine and clean, or it can impart a beautiful analog mojo. I can really drive this thing hard without compromising the integrity of the program material, and that’s what sets it apart from the rest. It retains clarity and punch with no unpleasant artifacts. It bends or pushes frequencies exactly how I want, something I usually only expect from hardware. There’s a ‘maturity’ in how it handles audio that I’ve found lacking in most software. CPU efficiency is excellent, I’m using it on everything. I’m blown away. Mixing entirely in-the-box no longer feels like a compromise in any way. Do yourself a favor. 👍🏻”
“A playful powerhouse for your mix! With smooth compression and plenty of character, it’s got everything you need to add that special touch. Trust me, it’s a tool worth getting excited about!”
“I’m really a feel kinda guy. I react to a piece of equipment or a plugin by the way it makes me feel internally and emotionally. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of plugins emulating one thing or another and what I find special about P19 Igloo is the way it makes me smile inside when I use it and play with it. There are so few in my eyes (and ears) that do that. At least five or six (sometimes more) of Pulsar Modular plugins regularly find their way into my mixes. They have become indispensable staples of my workflow and are my #1 goto for many situations.”
“It’s a different beast from the Abyss, for sure, but I’m finding it every bit as useful. Yet another masterpiece from Pulsar Modular!”
“Igloo gave my parallel drums the snap they were missing. It adds massive size and weight without sacrificing the punch. Solid!”
“From transparent to full-color compression, the P19 Igloo delivers some of the best harmonics I've ever gotten from a compressor. So flexible it's usable in any application. I can't find a bad way to use this.”

What owners say.
Great tool for the mix bus. Lots of clarity and glue.
Punch, attitude, glue... what can't this thing do? So many options! I'm just amazed at how this company keeps adding in that "magic sauce," for lack of a better term. My bank account is lower; my client rating is up :P
But seriously, the punch and detail this brings out in drums—I can't seem to recreate that in any other plugin in my arsenal. And I have a lot :)
I'd give it 10 stars, but your system only goes to 5. Thanks for helping me look like a better mixer than I actually am :)
Very versatile compressor!
Even if it’s more simple than P11 Abyss it’s still a gem and gets you lot of adjustment possibilities to get the sound to what you’re aiming for.
Great compressor! Just different enough from the P11 to justify having both. It sounds a bit more traditional and can get more aggressive with the Dynamics slider. Excellent layout and outstanding sound!
Another great compressor, different than Abyss. It seems a bit resource-intensive, particularly when Soul is engaged. In Reaper, CPU usage went from .88% to 2.0%. Other than the CPU issue, it is a very nice compressor. So far, I do prefer using Abyss though. I would use both, except for the CPU usage.
Great versatile compressor
P19 Igloo really does a great job of "gloo-ing" tracks together! I use it on drum bus for rock mixes; it is very versatile and can shine on any number of sources, tho. The "Dynamics" slider works brilliantly as a transient designer, you can get things sounding really punchy if you want. Very plush!
This thing is awesome!
I can't say that I fully understand exactly what's going on, as there are simply too many possibilities. The presets provide an idea of the various potential applications, depending on the source for which you want to use the compressor. I then play around with the settings a bit and usually quickly find something I like. I think understanding the details will come with time. Overall, I can say that I like it. A lot.
There's really nothing quite like P19 Igloo when it comes to how it reacts to peaks. It has a magical way with drums and percussion, and while it behaves very differently to its bigger brother P11 Abyss, its unique design makes it a perfect complement. P19 Igloo is already edging out many of my old favorite compressors.
Igloo - just wow.
I have not found another compressor in the plugin domain as versatile and colorful as this.
It's not cloning an existing color or sound. Rather, it's a unique character on it's own.
Thank you,
Very good
Another Masterpiece just what I needed!! Great sound!!!
Another winner from Pulsar Modular.I all ready own a few of there plugins which are all top of the game so I was hoping the P19 Igloo would not disappoint . I did a shootout on my mastering chain with a few great highly recommended plugins and no surprise I preferred this. Can be a bit overwhelming with features but well worth learning . Highly recommended .
What a nice surprise this compressor is! I didn't think I'd need it as I've already got lots of them. It replaced my Unisum for mastering. I like the fact that you can shape the type of compressor thanks to its PSI operation. Ideal for adding character or, on the contrary, making it softer. The sound quality is remarkable, very fine, very musical. Well done!
It could have been my journey into this world of audio, now, being further down the road than where I previously was, that allowed me to be so amazed by Igloo. This is the first plugin, where I could actually hear that bloom, that analog hardware sound so clearly and damn, it was just so beautiful. Highly recommended!
A great sound shape directly from ABYSS!
The dynamics parameters in particular do a great job.
