P422 FAIRUZ

P422 Fairuz is a very interesting and inspiring plugin.
Although it is an EQ, I have been using it more as a way to give expression, shape, and character to the master rather than simply correcting frequencies. What I like about it is how naturally it seems to become part of the sound. It does not feel like an obvious layer of processing placed on top of the mix. Instead, it subtly makes the master feel as if it had always been meant to sound that way.
There is a sense of shade, depth, and contrast that appears almost effortlessly. The sound image becomes more confident, more sculpted, and more charismatic, but without becoming exaggerated or artificial. It adds a kind of handsome dimensionality to the master — subtle, but definitely present.
I have only spent a short time with it so far, but I already find myself drawn to it. When I bypass P422 Fairuz, the unprocessed version can suddenly feel flatter and more ordinary, as if something important in the expression of the music has disappeared. That is usually the sign of a plugin that is doing something truly musical.
I am still exploring what it can do, but I can already tell that this is not just another EQ. It feels like a tone-shaping instrument for the master bus, capable of adding personality, contour, and emotional weight while still preserving the natural identity of the track.
I have a feeling P422 Fairuz may become one of those plugins I reach for again and again.
Beautiful Fairuz is loaded with functionality, yet the thing that immediately grabbed my attention was its resonant EQ. Smooth, musical, and genuinely lovely to work with.
A great alternative resonant EQ! Combining transformer and voice controls with spectrum sweeping for pleasant—or ear-fatigue-inducing—frequencies often yields excellent results. I now often reach for Fairuz when traditional EQ or dynamic EQ just doesn’t do the trick. I also have a soft spot for the optional stepped controls, which is a classy addition!
Maybe add a horizontal version of the GUI? Otherwise - great!
What if PM made a 'character' EQ that could be many characters? As with it's older, wiser brother, the P440 Sweet Spot, the secret is in the unusual but carefully shaped curves and high and low pass filters. Unlike the P440 you have less fine grained control over every nuance, and less of a zoomed out mastering level perspective. With the Fairuz you get the curated options you get, let go of some control and are rewarded by workflow and using your ears. Trident A range users will be at home with the concept. The Fairuz can go from extreme to subtle but thrives when pushed in unusual ways, in unexpected combinations. Curve and parameter wise, there's nothing here the P440 can't also do (qualifier: each does "have a sound" and the saturation options are not quite the same), so there's a case for saving your coins. But even if you ultimately want both, the Fairuz often gets the nod on instrument level tracks. So, what about those many characters? The "voice" knob is key. Add it for some built in saturation. Remove if you want the creative workflow of those PM eq curves, while putting your own saturator or preamp plugin of choice before it. Sure, you could painstakingly recreate any curve using FabFilter or it's many imitators. And sure there's also a million and one "character EQ"s out there where you get what you get, but choose for the color. The value proposition of the Fairuz and what makes it unique is that it is something in-between: characterful curves with a slight mind of their own, that could have a color, any color, or none at all. Unlike many "character eq's" that trade on nostalgia, this sounds modern and it sounds great.
Lastly: a short mention of the presets. They're excellent. So many presets just offer the same redundant options ("drums" "more drums" ...) As if the only music ever to exist was made of drums and guitars. And you didn't have your own go-to moves for kick drum memorized. Presets should be for those things you don't always already have dialed in, but when they come up, dang it's handy to have a preset! The Fairuz has presets for cello (multiples of them!) as well as "bowed group" "plucked" various shadings of vocal options, piano, and even "lute/oud" If you mix classical, scores/soundtracks, world, folk, jazz this EQ is for you. But also it's fresh to try something left field on synth pads or that odd percussion element you can't get a handle on, having these options is refreshing and worth your time.
Very nice equalizer, with the PM magic. In addition to high, high mids, low mids and lows, you can use high pass and low pass filters, high and low shelves, tremor for frequencies around 30 Hz and below, blend with the dry signal and add a touch of color. Simple and effective eq. when surgical work is not needed.
I love the voice knob. Nice for enhancement.
High shelf is very sweet
P422 Fairuz EQ
I’m always on the hunt for color EQs that are truly vibrant, packed with features, and easy on the CPU. Surprisingly, there aren’t many that check all those boxes. So when I discovered Fairuz, it was an instant buy.
Fairuz does it all—it can be pristine and transparent, or richly colored when you need that extra character. It offers features you won’t find in other EQs, and its efficiency is remarkable. One standout for me is how well it performs as a mastering EQ, which is a real testament to its design and quality.
Simply put: this is an EQ you can use on everything.
Another hit by PM.
This EQ is highly versatile, and the saturation sounds excellent to my ears.
I especially appreciate the ability to bypass the EQ section while still using the saturation—such a useful feature.
Since the EQ curves can be quite unconventional, the addition of graphical displays was a very welcome update. It really helps you understand how each band is shaping the sound.
What I like:
* It has a smooth, pleasing character that enhances the overall sonic quality without sounding harsh or artificial.
* The push/pull ear-tuned stepped frequencies are excellent.
How I use it:
* Vocals: I find the Fairuz particularly effective on vocals. It adds a pleasant warmth and presence, making them sit well in the mix. The EQ is gentle and musical, allowing for subtle tonal shaping.
* Acoustic guitar: It can enhance the natural warmth and body of acoustic guitar recordings. A touch of saturation can add a nice vintage vibe.
* Electric guitar: It works well for adding warmth and subtle grit to electric guitar tracks, especially for cleaner tones or bluesy overdrive.
* Bass: The Fairuz can also add some warmth and subtle harmonic richness to bass lines.
Perfect EQ to use if your looking for the feeling of an Analog console, you can use it to confidently boost frequencies and still sound natural and organic.
This EQ helps me across my whole mix - from the little touch ups to greater EQ shaping, it always sound soo 'right' to my ears.
This EQ is unbelievable!
I really love the sounds this EQ can produce. it is a gemstone!
The power of an Infinity Stone on any Track & Song the P422 Fairuz!
It is Top Quality & Sounds & Feels like Alchemy!
One of the best EQ plug ins available, can be surgical and musical. I thought I was over buying EQs until I tried this one. its truly special.
P422 is a terrific tool to have in the arsenal.
It excels on acoustic sources, as you can sculpt or enhance them without warping the spirit of their sound. The hammer circuit adds a very unique, almost mysterious flavor. It is subtle but it has this lovely grit and a helpful tightening effect. I really like pushing the midrange into it.
This EQ is truly extraordinary. Its combination of warm musicality and subtlety captures the magic of Pultecs in a totally parametric design. This really is one of those IQs where you con't realize how much better it makes things sound until you bypass and reengage it. And I say "things" because it works on everything! Pulsar Modular makes the best plugins I've heard and this is at least tied for the best. I don't know how this EQ came to pass but I love everything about it.
Another great tool from Ziad that allows me to get inside the mix and sculpt to achieve the sounds I hear in my head. Love it.
Love using this EQ for Vocals and everything else to bring out the best possible sound of what I'm working with. Using this with other PM plugins I couldn't ask for more. Just try it out yourself and see. Great work.
In my experience, PM plugins live up to the hype. The P422 deserves all the praise I’ve read on gearspace. It’s good, really good. I’ve used it everyday since becoming a day one early leaper and it’s been a joy to work with.
This is the only EQ I can remember that makes everything sound more "real" and more solid. Yes, other EQs make things sound good but on guitar or bass, P422 reminds me of having my ears down by the speaker; naked but better. A 9 dB of gain isn't harsh or even too much. Everything seems closer. If the sound you want is rude and raucous, this makes it stunningly more so. Amazing!
This EQ is really incredible. My favourite EQ from Pulsar Modular or any manufacturer for additive. I am pairing this with MDW-eq6, but if I had to only choose 1 EQ as my only one, it would be this EQ.
Congrats Ziad, I thought I was set with the P450, but I feel more connected to the P422.
great! great! great!
This is one of the easiest to use and musically superior EQs you've ever made.
In particular, LOW & HIGH SHELF works very well.
A very welcome addition to the Pulsar Modular toolkit. Can't wait to have the final version with the final GUI!
